FR202U e-Portfolio
As a requirement for another course, I had to create an e-Portfolio demonstrating my improvements in the French language throughout the Spring 2011 semester. If you would like to view this blog, you can click here.

Blog Component
I chose my first blog post to revise because it was a post about which I was particularly passionate. It breaks down one instance of how rhetoric is used in the media in a foreign country. I find the use of rhetoric in other cultures fascinating, especially in comparison to that of our own. The commercial that I analyzed could be understood in many different contexts, so it was interesting to consider all of those contexts and the types of people who might view them that way.

I chose this second post to revise because it is about an issue in society today that I find particularly irritating. Many people today, especially those of the younger generations, do not know how to hold a meaningful conversation. It demonstrates a real need for classes on rhetoric, such as LA101H!

I chose this third final post because it really represents a part of me that I did not realize was so important until this year. A lot of us don't understand how central the little things are in our life. I firmly believe that everyone should take at least some time out of his day to do something that he enjoys. This is a belief that I plan on carrying with me throughout the rest of my college career and life.

Speech Component
I chose to revise my Motivational Speech for the same reasons that I chose to revise my Persuasive Essay-- it was a topic about which I am passionate, I had the opportunity to inspire others to take action on an issue, and it was a great culmination of all that I have learned this semester.
When recording this speech, I had a difficult time because I have been dealing with a bad case of allergies lately. My voice is kind of hoarse, but there really was no avoiding that. When I recorded my speech, I made sure to vary my tone a lot more. This semester, I learned that when I speak in front of an audience, I tend to speak somewhat monotonously. In this speech, I put (or attempted to put, due to my current health conditions) as much emotion into my speech as possible. I also spoke slower and more clearly (or, again, attempted to.)

Essay Component
For this blog, I chose my final essay to revise and post. Being a persuasive essay, it gave me the opportunity to pick a topic about which I am very passionate, educate others on this topic, and attempt to convince them to take action. I feel like this paper was a great culmination of all that I have learned in LA101H this semester. It was the ultimate test of rhetoric-- persuading someone to see something in the same way I see it.
In regards to revisions on this paper, I basically added more details to some of my weaker arguments. There were many places in which I would introduce an idea, then just leave it without explaining any more. I expanded on those areas a bit, and strengthened my thesis, as well. In my introduction, I ended with a quote from an interview about my topic, but never really stated what the problem was or what I wanted readers to get from my piece. I added a simple thesis statement telling my audience about the gravity of the problem about which I was writing, and what needed to happen in regards to such a problem.
